Volpower NZ, have across last winter removed two KAD 44, 260hp 3.6 litre, six cylinder, stern drive engines from this vessel and repowered with two x D4-300hp, four cylinder, 3.7 litre four cylinder engines and IPS drive system.(IPS 400). The vessel used to achieve a cruise speed of 23 knots and topped out at 29-30 knots. Now we can cruise comfortably at 27knots with a top speed of 33knots. During the repowering process the boat building alterations, which were carried out professionally by Lloyd Stevenson Boat Builders, included inserting and laminating the IPS drive inserts into the hull, building new engine bearers, filling in the stern drive holes in the transom, removal of the keel deadwood (which is not recommended with any IPS installation) and removal of the bow thruster cavity. The engines, drives and electrics were installed by Volpower staff. The vessel is to be used for national technical training of dealer network technician’s, boat builder and designer demonstrations and dealers are welcome to set times for demonstrations for potential retail customers. The vessel includes such features as the IPS joystick control and demonstrations of this can be seen at the Auckland International on the Water Boat Show from March 6th – 9th located down by the pier bridge that joins the two sides of the harbour during the show.
